Chapter Thirteen

Varsha was having the most happening time of her life. She stood next to the glass door that led to the yard watching Kris and Myra play. He had taken her daily routine and tossed it over the fence and made it that much more interesting. It had been three weeks since they had their date night at her place, and they did not look back.

Kris practically lived at her place and went back to his house to shower in the morning. They had carpooled a few times in the last few weeks, but had been disciplined to keep work and life compartmentalized. She suddenly found all the time in the world to read a book and to cook something new every day for Myra as Kris would not let her daughter out of his sight. He fed her, read to her, and put her to bed and would do all the things her daughter wanted him to do, tirelessly.

“Are you ready to go back in, cupcake?” Kris looked at Myra playing in the sandbox with her feet buried under heaps of sand.

Myra looked up at him and said ‘no’ and continued to play in the sand.

“How do I get you to do what you don’t want to do, you work that cuteness so well?” he teased tickling her feet through the sand. He looked at the child that babbled to him as she played with her toys. He could not believe that he spent his day looking forward to seeing the chubby face and the gleaming eyes when she sees him since he was never the kind with the skills to entertain kids, let alone toddlers.

“Varsha, I need your help.”

“What’s up?”

“I can’t get her out of the sand.”

She laughed knowing how Myra faked crying every time she was picked up from the sandpit.

“Watch and learn!! When she looks up at the sky, you pick her up.” She winked.

“Myra, look!! That birdie is falling on you.” She made her toddler look up for the invisible bird, and Kris knew he had to move quickly.

“Alright, cutie pie, we are going in now.” He picked her out of the sandbox, dusted off the sand, and headed indoors.

“Where are you going?” She was surprised when he started to head upstairs.

“She needs a bath.”

“And you were planning to give her a bath?” She was surprised.

“Yup, I’ve watched a few YouTube videos. I think I know how to give her a bath.”

“Seriously?”

“I’m not kidding. They do have good instructional videos,” he clarified.

“I know they have videos. I was asking if you were seriously planning to give her a bath all by yourself.”

“I have given her a bath in the past with some help from mommy, but I am sure I can handle it.”

“I still can’t believe you actually enjoy all this,” she teased.

“I know, me neither. I blame this cute face.” Kris laughed as he headed upstairs carrying her heart, and she trusted him to take care of it.

It was a normal Tuesday morning until there was a power failure at the datacenter.
